| Fellowship Foundation Heritage Tour In the wake of Hurrican Katrina, the strength and resiliency of the Gulf Coast region was severely tested. The Fellowship Foundation and one of it's greatest programs, survived and thrived after the storm. The 2005 Heritage Tour brought 55 New Orleans students to Dallas , Texas for a chance to visit one of America's great cities and explore both the academic and corporate communities. During their 3 day trip, the boys visitied Texas Christian University, Southern Methodist University and Paul Quinn College. All of these great institutions of higher learning warmly embraced the visitors. The students toured each of the campuses to get a better feel for what college life is like. SMU held a private semi-formal reception for the young men of the Fellowship Foundation and the President of Paul Quinn college personally addressed the kids. The president welcomed the Fellowship Foundation to his campus and encouraged them to strive for academic excellence. In addition to visiting the colleges and universities, the Fellowship Foundation was invited to Nokia's corporate headquarters in Dallas. There, the students were given a tour of the facility and Nokia professionals talked to the group about what it is like to work for Nokia and career opportunities in telecommunications and technology. The young men also got a very insightful tour of an American Airlines maitenance facility, where they got to see first hand how American Airlines maintains it's vast fleet of airplanes. All of these were great hands on experiences for the kids where they could see first hand the benefits of academic achievement and how success in school can lead to an exciting career. |
