| LINK School Soccer Program Due to the generosity of PlaySmart, LINK Community School’s (Newark, NJ) soccer team was able to practice on a real field this year! PlaySmart funded the team’s bi-weekly practices at RexPlex in Elizabeth, NJ, as well as its registration fee for the Brick City Soccer Club of Newark. LINK’s soccer program complements LINK’s academic program by developing students who are dedicated and can work as part of a team. As Coach Eustis noted, “Athletics are a crucial part of a person’s growth and development,” and added, “being a scholar is a top priority.” Many of the soccer players had never played before, but did a great job on the soccer “learning curve.” The team clearly showed great spirit and unity. When asked about her favorite part of participating on the soccer team, eighth grader Chanel Morrison responded that it was, “working with my peers in practice and getting to help them.” PlaySmart is excited to be working with the LINK Community School. We’re confident that this is the beginning of a long-term relationship that will continue to benefit the kids at LINK. Many thanks to Bill Kurtz, the Principal of LINK and Rick Kahn of PlaySmart for making it happen. |
