2001 New Orleans Saints Youth Football Camp
On Saturday, April 7, 2001, PlaySmart sponsored a football clinic attended by seventy middle school-aged boys from three New Orleans public schools. The National Football Leagues New Orleans Saints, the Fellowship Foundation, and Play Smart all teamed up to run the clinic. The clinic featured drills designed to teach specific football skills. Each camper threw the football as a quarterback, tackled as a linebacker and even blocked kicks on special teams.
In addition to the football lessons, the coaches taught the more important lessons of hard work, sportsmanship and education. After a full morning of drills at the Saints practice facility, Saints Head Coach Jim Haslett addressed the students and reinforced the themes of the day. He reassured them that through hard work and education, all things are possible.
